To enable us achieve our goal, the program has been structured with an online and on-campus schedule, learners can learn on a local campus with Stanforth College and proceed to an online or on-campus with the Ottawa University USA to complete the degree program of choice.

Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)

The Master of Business Administration degree from Ottawa University is a 36 credit-hour degree, 12 courses. Stanforth College will teach the first five courses of the degree using curricula. The final seven courses in the degree are taught by Ottawa University. Students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university to be admitted into the MBA Program. They must also have a basic understanding of accounting and economics, which can include a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or economics, a Level 4 or 5 course on these topics, or completion of the short course, MBA Math, online. It will be the responsibility of Stanforth College to assure that students satisfy these entry requirements.

The MBA (top-up) consists a compulsory single module ‘Consultancy Project Report’ worth 60 Credits. The module provides the opportunity for you to examine an area of particular interest within an appropriate organizational context. The module is designed to make a major contribution to your professional and intellectual development, through enabling you to demonstrate your capacity for sustained independent thought, learning and critical reflection.

How the American MBA pathway program works:

Students begin their study with Stanforth College, completing these five courses

Then students complete their MBA with Ottawa University taking these seven courses:

Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace: Research shows emotional intelligence (EI) can be more important than IQ in outstanding job performance.

This course examines a variety of instruments used to build EI in the workplace.

Servant Leadership: This course explores the philosophy of life and leadership dedicated to the growth of others as well as values-driven institutions that contribute to just, caring, and sustainable societies.

Topics include study of leadership philosophies, styles and strategies as well as contemporary concepts of values and system-level thinking integration.

Value Systems & Professional Ethics: This course focuses on the study of personal and corporate value systems and decision-making; Investigation of personal beliefs, purposes and attitudes, and their effects on self and others. Students will examine the ethical dimensions of organizational structures and practices.

Managerial Economics*: This course focuses on the application of economic theory to managerial issues and practices. Emphasis is on both the quantitative and qualitative application of microeconomic principles to business analysis.

Management Information Systems: This course examines the use of computer information systems in business organizations with emphasis on how information technology supports business functions and aids managerial decision-making.

Management Accounting*: Students explore the use and application of accounting information for planning, control, and decision-making. Topics include cost analysis and allocation, budgeting, and behavioural aspects of accounting systems.

Graduate Seminar: Business Policies and Strategy: This is a capstone course that is taken last.

Students develop a major case study of business administration issues, programs, and policies in a current organization, including the organization where the student currently works, if they choose. It draws from and uses concepts, theories, and skills developed in previous courses.

* Students will need a basic understanding of accounting and economics to take these courses.

This can include a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or economics, or a Level 4, 5, or 6 course on these topics. Without this background, students will be asked to take a short Ottawa University course in MB Math that is wholly online and self-paced.
