The Master of Applied Science (MAS) in Information Technology and Business

Is designed for students to develop advanced skills in Information Technology and Business. A typical example would be an IT professional seeking to understand foundational business concepts as an entry into management. The program focuses on strategic business skills and their application to the design and delivery of technological information systems.

The MAS program is structured to build upon coursework from the Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management, taught by the Stanforth College faculty.

Once you complete their Level 7 Diploma, then you complete the MAS with Bellevue University through an engaging and interactive, online learning platform that supports networking with other motivated learners and faculty.

How the American BAS in CIS degree program works:

Students begin their study with Stanforth College, completing the Levels 4 and 5 in Computing from ATHE. In addition, in order to fulfill the General Education component of the US degree, students will take an additional 8 courses from ATHE levels 4-6 in Business and Management. The remaining 10 courses will be done directly with Bellevue University.

Students will take the following 10 courses in Computer Information Systems from Bellevue University:

1. CIS 305 Management and Design of Database Systems

The major focus of the course will be the relational model with a brief discussion of the hierarchical and network models. Database design using E-R Diagrams will be presented. Relational terminology and the theoretical concepts of the model, such as normalization, will be discussed. The Structured Query Language (SQL) will be used to manipulate the model. Students will prepare a small application using a commercial relational database management system.

2. CIS 321 Structured System Analysis and Design

A project-based course which focuses on the use of tools and methodologies applied to structured system analysis and design. Emphasis is placed on traditional approaches including enterprise analysis, workflow analysis, data flow analysis, affinity diagram construction and use, system flowcharting and entity relationship diagramming. Students will complete a feasibility analysis, risk analysis, design specifications and a project implementation plan for a simulated business system.

3. CIS 433 Information Technology Project Management

This course provides students with an introduction to project management as it relates to Information Technology. Students develop formal project plans based on actual problems. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge areas of project management. Team-based and discovery-based learning methods are stressed. Where applicable, course topics align with the CompTIA Project+ certification.

4. CIS 451 Information Systems Strategy, Management and Acquisition

This course focuses on the strategic role of information technology and information systems in today’s business environment. Topics will include challenges faced by managers of business firms, understanding the technologies that will help managers meet these challenges, designing business processes to take advantage of the technologies, and creating management procedures and policies to protect the firm’s assets. This course provides the IT professional with an understanding of the dynamic, increasingly globalized and technology-intensive business environment.

5. BSIT 320 Computer Server Environments

This course focuses on installing, configuring, diagnosing, and troubleshooting servers, including server hardware, general storage, upgrades, maintenance, and disaster recovery. Course topics align with the CompTIA Server+ certification.

6. BSIT 341 Cisco Network and Routing Infrastructure

This course introduces Internet working through the study of Cisco routing and switching. Coverage includes installing, configuring, operating, and optimizing networks that use Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wide Area Network protocols, and Cisco network hardware. Course topics align with the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.

7. BSIT 400 Cloud Computing and Governance

This course introduces cloud computing from a business and technical perspective, including implementing and governing a cloud environment. Topics include characteristics of cloud services from a business perspective, the business value of cloud computing, technical considerations, cloud types, steps to successful adoption, impact on IT service management, and risks and consequences. Course topics align with the CompTIA Cloud Essentials certification.

8. LA 400 American Vision and Values

This course focuses on the political and philosophical traditions of the American republic, especially as embedded in the ideals, values, traditions, founding documents, and institutions of the United States.

9. LA 410 Tradition and Change

This course focuses on the creative tensions that exist between the forces of tradition and change as the country undergoes social, cultural, and political change. It considers the manner in which change can renew the vitality of a republic.

10. LA 420 Freedom and Responsibility

This course focuses on the political and philosophical traditions of the American republic, especially as embedded in the ideals, values, traditions, founding documents, and institutions of the United States.
